Happy Pi Day

Happy Pi Day: Today is a special day for lovers of mathematics.

March 14, 3/14 is Pi Day - a day to celebrate the mathematical constant which represents the ratio of circumference to its diameter, whose symbol is the Greek letter pi. William Jones first used the pi symbol to present this ratio, the ratio that is constant for all circles. The use of later popularized by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler in 1737, according to the Pi Day website.

Pi Day, officially recognized by the House of Representatives of the United States in 2009, marked not only wee but it is also a day during which schools and teachers are encouraged to promote the study of mathematics.

So the lover of mathematics, to make Pi Day?

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics offers the following suggestions to keep the feast of mathematics:

"Why not organize a competition is accompanied by a wee read of the competition have feet? Make pies square, not round, as the" cake box "is the area bounded by a circle."

If this excites you, you can always follow the schedule of activities aimed at Pi Day the self-proclaimed technology geek Mylonadis Harry. His work includes the preparation of n (Pi) ancakes, make crop circles and the calculation of pi by throwing frozen hot dogs.

You can also sing a few songs, like Pi Day "Pi Day", "The Number Pi" and "Song of the Day Pee." (See video on the day the song Pi)

While the mathematical constant, of course, reason enough to rejoice, fans of science and mathematics is one more reason to celebrate March 14 - the anniversary of Albert Einstein. Renowned physicist, was born March 14, 1879. In the city of Princeton, New Jersey, where Einstein lived for many years, a joint celebration of the anniversary of Pi Day / Einstein is known as Pi Day Princeton. Three-day event, also called Geek Freak weekend, including reading groups, fiddle contests for children, neighborhood trolley tours of Einstein, "Mathlete" Competition and much more.

Closer to home, the Georgia Association of Engineers and Scientists Environment held ice cream social in the Pi Day Pi Day, without events were listed in the University of Georgia (insert your own joke here).

Perhaps the most famous celebration of Pi Day occurs on the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Exploratorium physicist Larry Shaw, also known as the Prince of Pi, Pi Day was founded 24 years ago. Each year the Exploratorium Pi Day celebrations are held, including food and pi pie business.

If you do not celebrate Pi Day on your calendar and make plans for vacation, do not worry. You can still celebrate Pi Day by sending a postcard to all my friends who think mathematics through the website of Pi Day
