The Carolina Panthers and strong safety Charles Godfrey Saturday agreed to a contract extension of five years.

Doug Hendrickson, Agent Godfrey said that the trade is worth $ 27500000 $ 12400000 guaranteed to all. "He is the top of the world, and he is excited, because this is what he wanted," said Hendrickson. "He really loves the new defense and all the staff and the organization. They came up big."

His contract would have expired after this season.

Godfrey, one of six team captains, past the Panther defense to win a contract extension of at least five years, joining defensive end Charles Johnson and linebackers James Anderson, Jon Beason and Thomas Davis as the team did a concerted effort to keep their major players.

A third-round pick in 2008, Godfrey started 43 games over the last three seasons with the Panthers and has 157 tackles, seven interceptions and six forced fumbles during that period. He led the team last season with five interceptions.
